Overview

 The "Seder" Church

Shortly after the Rev. R.N. Hunter become the pastor of Ebenezer in 1931, a member of the community asked Mr. Hunter's daughter Rachel:  "Your daddy is the new preacher at the 'Ceder Church, isn't he?"  Fifteen-year-old Rachel thought the question an odd one because she didn't know that the church building was cedar.  Her father explained to her that 'Ceder meant "Seceder."  As late as 1931, members of the community were familiar with the Scottish roots of Ebenezer.  Organized as a particular congregation of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1842, Ebenezer still stands as a Reformed voice in Tippah County, Mississippi.

The pictures below (clockwise) include:  Ebenezer's first organ, purchased in 1903; the fourth house of worship, built in the late 1880s and replaced with the present building; and the third house of worship, erected in the 1850s.
